I have a headache! These four words make up one of the most commonly used phrases in America and probably in the entire world.
There is not an adult living on the planet that has not suffered from a headache at one time or another.
If you don't think headaches and headache relief is big business, go walk down the pain relief aisle at any drug store.
The shelves are full of pills that promise to relieve headaches. Billions of dollars are spent every year in pursuit of headache relief.
The promises made by these products to relieve a headache in a matter of seconds sound really good until you start reading the fine print on the labels.
Because of truth-in-advertising legislation, companies must now list all of the ingredients in a product as well as any possible side effects that may be caused by using the products. Whoa!
I can't even pronounce some of those ingredients! And who would rather have an upset stomach than a headache.
Wait a minute -- do I know if I have liver disease,
or could I have an ulcer I don't know about?
These over-the-counter medications could make me feel worse than the headache is making me feel. There has to be a better way, right?
Actually, yes -- there are better ways to relieve headaches than by buying the over-the-counter medications with all of those awful side effects.
People were curing headaches many centuries before these little magic pills appeared on the scene.
Herbs that are known to relieve headaches, and which can be bought at most every herb store, are:
White willow bark (the basis of aspirin but in natural form), feverfew, peppermint, passionflower, gingko, cayenne, meadowsweet, valerian, skullcap, and chamomile.
Certain aromas, like lavender, are also known to relieve headaches.
